About Shorinji-Ryu Karate Do

SHORINJI-RYU KARATE DO is a clan system of karate, stemming from the Shimabukuru family of Okinawa.  The style includes influences by the Fujian White Crane style, of which there are several varieties.  Hanshi Brodman is currently researching and writing an authoritative book to document the transition of Shorinji-Ryu from a southern Chinese style of Quanfa, to Okinawan Todi, to modern karate.

Shorinji-Ryu is a very aggressive martial arts system, based on immediate response and acceleration of technique towards a target. Students are given a complete explanation of "Oyo"-- the principles behind the technique. With detailed explanation of principles, the true fighting art of karate can be understood by any practitioner.  The ultimate aim in any confrontation is "one strike" to end a confrontation.

Shorinji-Ryu is not a sport karate system. It is a complete martial arts system for real life confrontations, teaching technique, mental preparedness, and "Katsu," the ancient art of repairing traumatic injury.
